Maria has always enjoyed pushing limits while being surrounded by nature, whether it be trail running, mountain biking, or trying to surf. In college, she discovered the importance of strength and conditioning to be able to do the activities she loves. The gym was an intimidating place for her, however, and it was not until she enrolled in a women’s lifting class in college that she learned there is space for women in the weight room. She also learned just how crucial it was for her physical and mental health.
Maria has her master’s degree in social work with training in palliative and end of life care. The importance of caring for the whole person is what led her to pursue teaching group fitness classes. She has taught strength and HIIT classes since 2017 and really can not wait to bring all that she has learned along the way to Sage Society. Her classes are filled with strong beats, silly comments, and a whole lot of heart.
When she is not teaching a class, you can find her outside—possibly on a trail solo, but realistically with one of her three kids or golden retriever. (Oh, and while dreaming about eating dairy-free ice cream from Rori’s.)
